Auroville was created by The Mother<\/a>, and it is her Dream that continues to be a daily guidance for life in Auroville. Her powerful presence attracted many to come and settle in the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, which she managed until the time of her passing in 1973. Many of the early Aurovilians describe being called by her to come and create Auroville. Some got caught by her pictures or words, others saw her in visions and dreams. Those who met her often describe it as an intense experience, a spiritual homecoming, as you can read in other sections of our blog. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mother\u2019s biography is vast and varied and much can be said. But there is also a simple power in her pictures, which can convey much of her presence and warmth. We have collected some of our favourites for you to enjoy.
